The hugely successful transition day for Year 7 held this term saw students from Alban, Beauchamp, Putnoe, Goldington, Castle Newnham, Shackleton, Lakeview, Livingstone, Elstow, Westfield, Cauldwell and Marston Vale attending Mark Rutherford School to prepare them for joining in September. As we have been a full secondary school for a number of years, we decided to increase our intake capacity in Year 7 to cater for all those students who wanted to join our school.
At the other end of the age range, we have seen Year 11 and Year 13 students completing their exams and we wish them well with their results. This year’s results will see the first 9-1 grades coming through for English and Maths (9 being the highest grade!) with the reformed GCSE courses well underway. It is clear that the new courses are challenging and we are seeing the results in the summer as being ‘Year 1’ of the new GCSE era and of course we intend to build successes, year after year.
While there is no doubt that the recent election saw education and funding as central themes as schools all over the country face significant challenges, Mark Rutherford is well prepared financially thanks to the careful management of resources, access to alternative funding and the good will of our partners who give of their time and expertise freely. This ensures that we are able to provide our students with a quality education even in times of austerity.
I wish all the students who are leaving and moving onto their next phase of their journey the best of luck and wish everyone associated with the school a safe and relaxing summer break. I would like to say a particular ‘thank you’ to Mrs Palmer for her commitment to the school over the last 11 years as a Deputy Headteacher, and wish her well as she moves on to her role as Principal in her new school.
Congratulations go to Ms Samosa (Assistant Headteacher and Head of ICT Department) who won the Bedfordshire on Sunday’s Local Heroes 2017 in the Education Achievement Award section.
Have a good summer and I look forward to seeing you all in September, refreshed and ready for another exciting and successful year!
